Concealed Placket Batwing Long Coat
Recently at Moss, we received ATE SIMO’s latest drop Collection 010. The collection looks to erythrina, a coral tree known for its vivid blossoms and enduring presence. The tree informs a series of expressive floral motifs, as well as the organic silhouettes and fluidity of the garments.
At the centre of the collection is the work of artist Mo Bai. Her hand-drawn motifs appear throughout, digitally printed across fluid fabrications, repeated across outerwear and carried through into the linings of the garments.
Mo Bai has exhibited extensively across Asia and beyond, with her work presented in Tokyo and California. For ATE SIMO, she creates a series of expressive floral prints based on hand-drawn erythrina motifs. Drawing from traditional Chinese ink painting, she uses brush and ink to capture the essence of the coral tree. Rather than treating print as a purely decorative element, ATE SIMO integrates the stylistic elements of Mo Bai’s illustrations into the garments themselves, allowing the loose spirit of her drawings converge with the fluid essence of each piece.
Mo Bai’s motifs are paired with ATE SIMO’s signature fabric-focused philosophy. Natural fibres including wool, cashmere and linen define the collection, treated with an emphasis on texture, irregularity and tactility. Organic folds, nuanced surfaces and cold-dyed, crinkled textures give each fabric a distinct character.
These fabrications are balanced by an uncompromising attention to hardware and construction that has become synonymous with ATE SIMO. RIRI zippers, hand-fired ceramic buttons and considered construction make an appearance throughout the collection.
Throughout Collection 010, structured silhouettes are softened by movement, while considered treatments bring a sense of time and weathering to the fabrics. The result is a collection that feels distinctly ATE SIMO, artisanal, fluid and deeply rooted in materiality, where structure flows naturally into form.
